How to prepare your car for towing
A practical checklist for keys, vehicle condition, pickup access and workshop delivery before a tow.
Give accurate vehicle details
Share the make and model and explain why the vehicle cannot be driven. Tell us about flat tyres, locked wheels, missing keys or low ground clearance before we arrive.
Have the keys and destination ready
Confirm who will meet the operator and hand over the keys. Give the full delivery address. If it is a workshop, check that they can receive the vehicle at the planned time.
Check the pickup access
Describe where the vehicle is parked and any gate, height or space restrictions. Do not try to move a vehicle in an unsafe location simply to make loading easier; explain the situation to the operator first.
Remove loose personal items
If it is safe to access the car, collect valuables and secure loose items. Photograph its existing condition if you want a record, and discuss any concern with the operator before loading.
